Bacau is a county in the Moldavian region of Romania, with residence in Bacau. The county has an area of 6,603 sq. Km and the main water courses that cross it are Siret, Bistrita, Trotus, Tazlau, Berheci, Zeletin. The main lakes: Balatau (natural dam), Belci, Poiana Uzului (water supply), Racova, Garleni, Serbanesti and Bats (hydropower); Maximum altitude: Grindusu Peak (M. Tarcau) 1,664 m, Nemira 1,648 m, Great sandy 1,639 m (M. Nemira). It is bordered by the following counties: to the east with the Vaslui county, to the south with the Vrancea County, to the west with Covasna County and Harghita County, and to the north with the Neamt County.
