Ostrov Monastery

Ostrov Monastery (1518-1522) - is a foundation of Neagoe Basarab and his wife Despina. Located on an island of the Olt River, the monastery is linked to the Călimăneşti-Căciulata resort by a bridge. The construction of the hydropower plant has forced the island to rise by 6 m in order not to be flooded with water.

The mobile icons of that period are found today at the Romanian Art Museum of Bucharest, but the most important point of the monastery is the icon "The Mother of God with the Child", which is said to be a miracle-working icon.

Hurezi Monastery - the largest and most important establishment of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu, was built between 1690-1697. The monastery was built to perform the function of the necropolis, and the remains of the voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu would be buried in the large church narthex. The tomb made of marble and covered with a sculpted slab, prepared for the founding voivode, has never fulfilled its purpose. The decapitated body of voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu was buried in another building in the Church of St. George in Bucharest.
