It is a county located in the south-east of Transylvania, in the central area of ​​Romania. The county seat is Sfantu Gheorghe. Except the extreme south of the county, this territory is part of the Szeklerland, a characteristic historical and ethnographic region, inhabited mostly by Hungarian Szeklers. Thus, according to the 2011 census, more than 73% of the county's inhabitants declared themselves Hungarians. The county was founded in 1968, after the dissolution of the Hungarian Autonomous Region. Most of the territory of the county was part of the interwar period in the Three Scaune County, with residence in Sfantu Gheorghe, and Odorhei County, with residence in Odorheiu Secuiesc. Covasna County is located in the center of Romania, on the internal side of the Carpathian Mountains.
