Bicaz It is a town in the Neamt county, Moldova, Romania, consisting of the localities Bicaz (residence), Capsa, Dodeni and Izvoru Muntelui, and from the villages of Izvoru Alb, Potoci and Secu. It has a population of 6,543 inhabitants. The town is located in the western part of the county, at the foot of the Ceahlau Mountains, on the banks of Bistrita, where the dam that forms the Lake Izvorul Muntelui is located. On the territory of the city, Bistrita receives the waters of the tributaries Bicaz and Izvorul Muntelui (which flows directly into Bistrita downstream of the dam), Izvorul Alb and Secu (which flows into Lake Izvorul Muntelui). It is crossed by the DN15 national road, which connects Piatra Neamt with Toplita. At Bicaz, this road leads to the DN12C national road that goes up the Bicaz river valley, passes through Bicaz's keys and leads to Gheorgheni. A place called Bicaz appears for the first time in a document issued by voivode Radu Mihnea on January 10, 1625. In a reign of 1855, the Bicaz is mentioned as a fair. In 1884, the Bicaz became the domain of the Crown. At the end of the 19th century, the Bicaz was a rural commune included in the Piatra-Muntele Neamt county, consisting of the villages Bicaz, Chitirig, Capsa, Carnu, Cheile-Bicazului, Crasna, Fartigu, Floarea, Fundu Bicazului, Gura Bicazului, Hamzoaia, Muntii Izvorului, Marceni, Neagra, Poiana Corbului, Secu, Tasca and Ticos, having a total population of 2416 inhabitants. There were six mills, eight sawmills, a school and four churches. The Socec Yearbook of 1925 records the commune as the residence of the Mountain of the same county, with 2550 inhabitants in the villages Ata, Bicaz, Capsa, Carnu, Chisirig-Neagra, Ciungi, Hamzoaia, Izvoru Muntelui, Poiana Carnului, Secu, Tasca, And in Marceni. In 1931, several villages in the commune were detached to form the Tasca commune, Bicaz commune remaining with the villages Bicaz, Capsa, Carnu, Ciungi, Izvoru Muntelui, Maracini and Poiana Carnului.
