It is a town in Maramures County, Romania, consisting of Baita, Busag, Nistru and Tautii-Magheraus (the residence), and from the villages of Bozanta Mare, Merisor and Ulmoasa. The locality has a population of 7,336 inhabitants (2011) and was declared a town by Law no. 83/2004, along with three other communes in Maramures County: Great Somestea, Salistea de Sus and Ulmeni. Baita, Bozanta Mare, Busag, Merisor, Nistru and Ulmoasa are also part of the city. First documentary attestation: for Tauti: 1440 (Thotfalw); For Magheraus: 1490 (Monyoros).
