Bereşti is a city in Galaţi, Moldova, Romania. It has a population of 2,916 inhabitants. The settlement dates back to the Paleolithic, with the traces of this period as well as traces of the Cucuteni culture. It was designated a city in 1968.
From a geological point of view, the basis of the area is pliocene (pontian-dacian) age, consisting of clays, sandy sands, sands, covered by levantine age deposits - represented by clays, marches, red sands and sandstone. The dominant soils are chernozem type with several variants: cambic chernozems and clay-illuvial chernozems. On bare surfaces there are gray soils and brown soils of undergrowth. Good soil fertility and lowland slopes have led to intensive farming.
The relief of the city is represented in the form of pre-mountain hills, with altitudes under 300 m, which totally belong to the Covurlui Plateau. Under the geomorphologic aspect, three terraced formations were identified in the area of Bereşti.
